Tour of Pisa
Pisa is the best known and the most mysterious of Tuscan cities. Its most celebrated attraction has become, along with the Colosseum, a symbol for the entire Italian Republic; the Leaning tower.
You can visit the "Field of Miracles" and the Tower, the Cathedral, the Camposanto cemetery and the Baptistry.
The medieval cathedral, Santa Maria de Assunta, was constructed beginning in 1063 and is the most poignant example of Pisan Romanesque architecture. It was in this church the Galileo, a trusted member of the Court of the Medici family performed his experiments on pendulum movement while observing a swinging lamp in the ceiling.
Recently, after a long restoration to secure it at its current angle, the Tower of Pisa was reopened to visitors. You can now you climb up to admire the view, however only a few visitors are admitted daily. The trek to the top is an experience in itself, as you can feel the “lean” in the structure while you wind your way to the peak. If you wish to climb the tower, please contact us for assistance with reservations to ensure you are not disappointed.
After a few minutes car drive from the square, you will see the beautiful church of San Piero a Grado, built on the spot where St. Peter is believed to have first set foot on Italian soil in AD 42.
Please note that you must be dressed respectfully (no bare shoulders or knees) to enter our Churches.
