Tour of Portofino

According to Pliny the Elder, Portofino was founded by the Romans and named Portus Delphini, or Port of the Dolphin, because of the large number of dolphins that inhabited the Tigullian Gulf. Portofino, with all its charming little boutiques and café, and its delightful little church, San Giorgio, is a delightful and relaxing sea-side town which has been a vacatin destination for Italians for hundreds of years. There's plenty to do and see in this beautiful town. Start with a pleasant stroll up to the old castle, overlooking the picturesque harbor. Set on a hillside over Portofino Harbor, the historical Imperial Palace Hotel is a central overlook point from which you can bear witness to the island's magnetism. The Fragrant pine trees and peaceful olive groves surrounding the hotel, restaurants and nightlife are all short stroll away.
For those who want to relax, enjoy the restaurant and pool, both overlooking the harbor (hotel fees for services apply). Others may hire the hotel's speedboat for water-skiing, or pursue a round of golf at nearby Rapallo.
