This is a city steeped in history and culture and boasts the monuments, churches and palaces to prove it. Perhaps the most famous site is the Piazza del Campo where the great horse race “Palio” has been held since medieval times.After spending the morning in Siena, it is time for a lunch stop in Monteriggioni, the medieval fortress mentioned in Dante Alligieri’s “Devin comedy”, surrounded today by vines and olives.
For the afternoon you have San Gimignano to explore, a high-rise hamlet of the dark ages with more than a dozen stone towers. The narrow streets, charming churches and captivating shops and art galleries make your visit one of a kind. Your English speaking driver will take you back to your hotel in Florence with a whole new understanding of Tuscany, with its agricultural richness and cultural wealth.
