Carrara and Forte di Marmi
You have the day to explore the northern part of Tuscany, visiting Carrara and the artistic town of Pietrasanta.
Meeting your driver on the morning at the port, your first stop is to visit the small town of Carrara. Starting at the top, the quarries where slabs of marble are pulled from the earth, to be turned into works of art. The marble is prized for its sheen, and has been used over the centuries in many famous architectural and artistic works. Michelangelo himself was coming here in person to choose the best marble to work with and created works of art such as the David and the Pieta. You can also visit the town of Carrara, walk the small narrow streets of it full with sculptures and art.
Countinue on you have time to visit the chick seaside resort of Forte dei Marmi, you can enjoy a tipical tuscan lunch here and take a walk on the beach before heading up to another small artistic town of Tuscany, Pietrasanta. Artists from all over the world have their work cast in bronze in Pietrasanta’s foundries or carved in marble at the town’s many studios. You will hear artisans chiseling away at life-size copies of Michelangelo’s David or Pietà for export to Japanese museums. You have the rest of the afternoon here before getting back to the port of your full but relaxing day.
The English speaking driver will pick you up from the port and take you back as well in the afternoon.
